Both mother and son are vocal opponents of abortion, though there’s a curious aspect to the story she’s told in numerous interviews. Pam has repeatedly said that all this happened in the Philippines, where she delivered Tim in 1987. But as a letter to CBS from the Center for Reproductive Rights notes, the Philippines criminalized abortion in 1870. Since 1930, its criminal code governing abortion makes no exception to save the life of the mother and requires prison time for doctors and women involved.

It appears that the Focus on the Family Super Bowl ad might be predicated on a lie. Why am I not surprised? You’ve just been given a gift CBS. Take it. Pull the ad.

Sawickipedia: The right approach is to see whether CBS would allow a counter ad to run.  Seriously the last thing we want to do in this country built upon the idea of free and open discussion and sharing of ideas is the censorship of ideas.  CBS already runs political ads up and down its network and affiliates, this doesn’t strike me as much different.

Also with regards to the Phillipines, what the law says is one thing, what is effectively available is another.  Abortions might be common there or might not.  I just loathe the idea of political censorship.

As Voltairee once opined, “”I do not agree with a word you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
