Earlier this morning the number one story on Techmeme was about Microsoft Windows Mobile. Lots of rumors and speculation about Windows Mobile 7.
In 2010.
I’m not kidding.
Here’s the thing. It will surprise many of you but I’m actually a big fan of Microsoft. They make a bunch of great products (Xbox360, keyboard, mouse) and we rely on Microsoft Exchange as our digital furnace at work.
But Windows Mobile isn’t very good. It was good when it first shipped and it doesn’t compete now. And hoping for something magical to happen in 2010….well, I just don’t see it.
So I’m thinking Microsoft should buy either Palm or RIM.
My bet is they buy RIM. That’s the right move. The MSFT Exchange/Blackberry combo is bulletproof. And Microsoft could help put a proper browser on the Blackberry.
Lets see if that happens.
Sawickipedia: According to folks around town - MSFT has made MANY attempts to by RIMM. Apparently RIMM has been keeping MSFT at bay for a decade. Every year MSFT makes yet another offer and gets turned down.
I also have friends in the WinMo dev group and they’re already working on WinMo 9. It frustrates them to _no_ end that what’s in the market is what they finished developing 2 years ago. Nuts.
